Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State,on Tuesday, handed over to Nollywood veteran, Mrs. Lanre Hassan, popularly known as Iya Awero, a three bedroom flat for her accommodation.
The flat is in the newly commissioned Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate, Igbogbo, in Ikorodu area of the state.
The governor who did the handing over during the commissioning of the housing estate said the gesture was a celebration of the actress.
He said the government did not have to wait till she died before she could be celebrated, but that she should be celebrated while alive.
His words: “We don’t need to celebrate them when they die; we can celebrate them when they are still alive. These are Nollywood stars that have worked for over 20 to 40 years and need to be celebrated.”
Iya Awero expressed her appreciation for the kind gesture and prayed for the progress of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
The governor said the Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate was the seventh commissioned in less than two years by his government.
The execution of the project, he explained was in commitment to achieving a Greater Lagos and ensuring that the people of the state enjoyed the divided of democracy through the provision of affordable houses.
