The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has replied the query served him by the Kano State Government over alleged misappropriation of N3.4 billion.
The query was issued by the government after a probe carried out by an anti-corruption agency in the state.
Sanusi was given 48 hours to send in a reply to enable the government take necessary actions.
In his reply to the query, the emir explained that he met the sum of N1,893,927.38 (One Billion Eight Hundred, Nine Hundred and Twenty Seven Naira, Thirty Eight Kobo) only, when he assumed office.
He stated however that as the emir he was not the accounting officer of the emirate council.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to him to state his position on the issue.
The reply by the emir is dated June 7, 2019 and signed the Acting Secretary to the Kano Emirate Council, Alhaji Abba Yusuf.
It is titled: “Re-Report of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti–Corruption Commission.”
It would be recalled that the crisis between Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi ll, has been resolved following a reconciliatory meeting between the two in Abuja.
The reconciliation was announced in a statement on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to Ganduje, Mr Abba Anwar.
According to Anwar, the reconciliatory meeting was initiated by the Kano born businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
He said after the meeting, the duo exchanged pleasantries with each other in Abuja on Friday.
“As the two leaders met, they congratulated each other for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
“Both leaders spoke and urged all Muslims to continue with the good teachings and spirit of the fasting period of the Month of Ramadan.
“Emir Sanusi seized the opportunity to congratulate Gov. Ganduje for the victory in his second term in office. He also wished the governor successful tenure in office.”
According to the statement, the two agreed that “for healthier relationship between the two institutions of government and Kano Emirate Council, the dialogue will continue.”
Kano State Government on Thursday queried Sanusi over alleged misappropriation of N3.4bn by the Kano Emirate Council.
The state government had also created four emirates out of Kano.
