Operatives of the Lagos Police Command’s Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants, Anti Robbery Squad, Anti Cultism Squad and Raiders have been deployed to various parts of the state.
The deployment is to aid the efforts of area commands and divisional patrol teams already deployed to the fields to tackle the menace of social miscreants and violent crimes perpetrated by hoodlums.
According to the spokesman of the command, DSP Bala Elkana, the operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad had been positioned in strategic locations to promptly respond to distress calls.
Patrols, he said, had been intensified by the task force around markets and stores to prevent hoodlums from stealing and looting.
Patrol teams were equally deployed to various communities and streets.
He explained that 20 suspects were arrested on Friday within Ilaje and Ajah communities for gang violence.
On Saturday, according to him, Area B Command and Apapa Division responded to a distress call at Burma/Creek Road Apapa where seven gangsters who engaged in supremacy battle on the street were arrested.
The mission of the gangsters on the street was mainly to steal and loot under the guise of supremacy battle, the police spokesman said.
He added that nine suspects were arrested at Abule Egba and Ifako Ijaiye areas after operatives of Lagos State Command successfully foiled robbery attempts on residents in communities under Ogun State, neighbouring Lagos State.
He said investigation was ongoing and the suspects would soon be charged to court.
The police assured the public of adequate protection of their lives and properties throughout the lockdown period and beyond.
“In case of emergency, call the following numbers 09010512285, 09010512286, 09010512287, 09010512288,” the police spokesman said.
