The Department of State Services, DSS, has declared that it was never instructed to disrupt electoral process in the discharge of its duties in the 2019 general election.
DSS made the declaration as it said it carried out its duties in strict adherence to the principle of justice and fairness.
The declaration was made by the Public Relations Officer of the service, Mr Peter Afunanya, in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, against the backdrop in some quarters that it was instructed to disrupt the governorship election in Rivers State.
His words: “As a professional agency, it will continue to adhere to the principles of justice and fairness.”
He stated that the adherence of the DSS to ensuring justice and fairness was in accordance with the principle of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
He said the government was against interference in the electoral process.
It would be recalled that the electoral process of the governorship election in Rivers State was halted following widespread violence.
New dates have been fixed for the continuation of the processes by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
