The police and other security agencies on Monday frustrated the planned Revolution Now protest scheduled to effect a change of government.

With armed security operatives from the Police Command in Lagos, the Army and NSCDC, the National Stadium in Lagos was blocked, preventing the protesters from converging.

Tear gas was used by the security agencies to disperse the crowd that gathered ahead of the Revolution Now protest.

Speaking on the action of the operatives, the Area Commander, Area C, ACP Tijani Fatai, said the planned convergence was without authority.

Said he:  “Their planned protest is unlawful. They did not obtain permission for the protest. If they say they have the permission, let them show it.

“Any one that foments trouble will be dealt with according to law.”

It would be recalled that the presidential candidate of African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, was arrested on Saturday by the Department of State Services, DSS, in connection with the planned protest.

He is one of the arrowheads of the action.

The police and DSS have since declared the protest illegal.

The Presidency, also on Sunday declared that the ballot box remained the legitimate means through which power could be changed.

According to the Presidency in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the days of coups and revolutions were over.

The Presidency challenged those behind the planned protest to show their faces and stop hiding behind the veil of social media.

However, despite the threat to prevent the protests, the organizers vowed to go on.
