The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the immediate release of convener of Revolution Now protest, Omoyele Sowore, by the Department of State Service, DSS.
This is as the order by the DSS to detain Sowore for 45 days has expired.
It was Sowore’s 52 days in detention.
Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, an online news platform, was arrested by security agencies on August 3, 2019, following the plan to carry out a mass protest tagged Revolution Now.
The protest was said to be aimed at retrieving power from the present administration which was alleged to have failed in good governance.
He was consequently charged to court for treasonable felony.
Making a case for his release on Tuesday, Sowore’s lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, argued that since the order had expired, and the application for renewal had been withdrawn, he should be released.
The court upheld the argument of Falana and ordered that Sowore be released to him.
However, the judge, Taiwa Taiwo, ordered that Sowore shoud submit his international passport with the court registry within 48 hours.
In addition, Falana was asked to present him whenever he is to be arraigned.
