The Department of State Services, DSS, has been granted the power to detain the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, for 45 days.

It is to enable the DSS conclude its investigation in Sowere’s alleged involvement in terrorism act.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, gave the order following a request to that effect by the DSS.

The order takes effect from Thursday, and is renewable.

In the motion ex-parte brought to the court, the DSS, under Section 27 of the Terrorism Prevention Act, alleged that Sowore was involved in terrorism act.

The request was for his detention for 90 days.

Two digital video disks were presented with one containing a recording of Sowore’s meeting with the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

A video of an interview where he was allegedly boasting that his cause would also be supported by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, otherwise referred to as Shi’ite was also presented.

He was said to have boasted that members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, otherwise referred to as Shi’ite were going to join forces with him to bring down the Nigerian Government.

Recall that Sowore was arrested by the DSS on Sunday August 4, following the plan to embark on a protest, Revolution Now.

The protest was said to be designed to take over government from the Buhari administration.

The protest was frustrated by security agencies which barricaded the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos on Monday, August 5, 2019.

Those who had gathered for the protest were dispersed.
