The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is not out to contest for market share with Dangote refinery coming up soon.

The assertion was made by the Group Managing Director, GMD, NNPC, Malam Mele Kyari, while receiving the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

The assertion is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesman of NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu.

He said rather, what the NNPC would do was to give the necessary support to Dangote refinery in order to improve on the refining capacity of Nigeria.

He said such support would not be limited to Dangote but others who might be interested in promoting refineries in the country.

The NNPC boss said what was important was to achieve the objective of making Nigeria a great exporter of petroleum products.

Dangote, who spoke earlier was quoted as saying that his company would see NNPC as a collaborator and rely on its wealth of experience in the business for assistance.

His words: “The most important thing for us is to see how we can partner with NNPC, it is not to see how we can compete with NNPC.

“We would like NNPC to be part of us and we also want to be part of NNPC. I think that is the only way we can achieve a win-win situation.”

He said Dangote would work towards achieving government’s desire to ensure enough products through the increase in its refining capacity.

He assured that the refinery would dedicate 53 per cent of its projected 650,000 barrels per day refining capacity to the production of petrol.
