‎The publisher of SOKOnnect, an online newspaper, Mr. Steve Ojochegbe Oma-Ofozor, has been honoured with a “Certificate of Credence” by the Correspondent’s Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos.

The award was given on June 27, 2026, during the annual Press Week held at the NERDC Conference Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

‎‎The annual event is always a moment for gentlemen of practicing journalists to celebrate themselves and reflect on their constitutional responsibility as the “watchdogs of the society” as well as reward members who have lived up to expectations.

‎‎‎‎The award, although not the first in his professional career, was one he described as so dear to his heart in the 23 years of his journalism practice which started from the Nigerian Observer in Benin City, Edo State capital.

He also had a stint with Midwest Times and Metro Sport.

‎‎Oma-Ofozor, who is well known for sport reportage with bias for golf and the Nigerian league said, “I’ve always tried to make a mark wherever I find myself in my journalism profession; and I’ve never been disappointed as I’ve always been proven worthy by individuals and groups with one award or the other.

‎‎”Journalism is not a money making profession, but a constitutional call to service for the people to be informed about their environment and the entire polity, educated to be knowledgeable, particularly about their right and civic responsibilities and entertained to be happy about good developments around them with factual, timely, fair reportage and more.”

‎‎As an acknowledgement, Oma-Ofozor who has been very active since joining the Correspondents’ Chapel however added, “My worth as a “credible journalist” has once again been proven by the Correspondents’ Chapel, NUJ Lagos State Council. Hence I want to thank the Chapel Chairman Comrade Abraham Akpabio, the executive members and every other member, NUJ Lagos State Council for this wonderful honour.

‎‎”I also want to thank friends and well wishers for being by me always to have achieved this feat thus far. Although the physical affluence might not be visible, the holy book rhetorically says, good name is better than riches; God be with you all.”

‎‎In retrospect, Oma-Ofozor after leaving the Nigerian Observer in 2012, joined Daily Independent in Lagos and worked from 2013-2021.

He has served in various capacities of the journalism fraternity (the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Edo State Chapter as Secretary and also in same regard at the Correspondents’ Chapel, Lagos whenever required).

He is, at present, the CEO of SOKOnnect Media Services.
