Procession and other activities of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, are illegal as the group has been proscribed in line with the Terrorism (Prevention) Proscription Order Notice of July 26, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, has warned.
The warning was given in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, DCP Frank Mba, on Monday.
The warning was given in obvious reaction to a report that members of IMN, otherwise referred to as Shi’ite would stage a procession.
The police said their procession would be considered as a promotion of terrorism.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, was said to have issued a directive to the Commissioners of Police in all the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to avert any procession or disruption of public peace by Shi’ite.
Also, the IGP is said to have issued a directive to all supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police to put in place concrete measures to prevent the procession.
While calling on members of the public to help with useful information about the activities of Shi’ite, the police appealed to parents and guardians to warn their children against embarking on ill-motivated activities.
