Police tighten security in Lagos, deploy additional 500 men

Ahead of the different activities coming up in Lagos State, the Nigeria Police Force has deployed 500 of its men to Lagos Island.

The action is to prevent criminal activities and reduce the amount of gridlock.

The activities, which are believed to be capable of pulling crowd are The Experience, Adekunle Gold Concert and the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Holy Ghost Congress at Redeemed Camp and Shiloh at the Winners’ Chapel.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Chike Oti, made this known on Friday, stating that the policemen would mount different routes on the Lagos Island with particular attention to Apongbon, TBS, Eko Hotels and other areas.

Oti said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had with the action warned that those who might be planning any criminal activity should bury the idea.

He stressed that anyone caught involved in crime would be dealt with severely.

He gave some numbers for members of the public to call in order to curb criminal activities.

They are the regular emergency numbers which are toll-free: 112 and 767.

The police said his men would also work in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LASTMA and other relevant traffic management agencies to prevent gridlock.

He urged Nigerians to ensure a peaceful celebration.
