Police speak on rescue of two kidnapped OOU female students

The heat we put on the kidnappers of the two female students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, kidnapped on Sunday led to their release, the Ogun State Police Command, has declared.

The Public Relations Officer of the police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this known in a telephone interview with FrontPage on Wednesday.

He said since the students were kidnapped on Sunday, the police had been on the trail of their kidnappers and doing everything possible to ensure the release.

According to him, but for the need to ensure the safe rescue of the students, the kidnappers would have been dealt with at the point of rescue.

He said as at the time of the interview, the students were still with the police.

The police spokesman said to the knowledge of the police, no ransom was paid.

He said paying ransom to kidnappers would amount to empowering and encouraging them and the police would not do that at all.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the rescue of the students on Tuesday while expressing appreciation to the police and other security agencies for the rescue.

The governor wrote on his Twitter handle: “This is to announce that we have secured the release of Precious Adeyemo and Abiola Oyefule – both OOU students recently kidnapped in Ayetoro.

“I appreciate the efforts of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies involved in the exercise that will now see the ladies reunited with their respective families.”

Gunmen, at about 9 p.m. on Sunday, stormed Igbole Aibo Quarter area of Ayetoro in Yewa North local government area of Ogun State and abducted them.

While Adeyemo is studying Forestry and Wildlife Management, Oyefule is studying Agricultural Economics.
