Lagos State Police Command has set up a Special Strike Force to curb the menace of social miscreants in the state.
The strike force launched by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, is tasked with the responsibility of dislodging social miscreants in the state.
Such miscreants are operating under different names such as One Million Boys, No Salary Boys and Awawa Boys among others.
In a statement issued by the spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, the miscreants are blamed for series of violent crimes and attacks in different communities and neighborhoods in the state.
They are also said to engage in traffic robberies, assaults, murder and sexual assaults.
The operations of the team, it was revealed, would be mostly intelligence driven, and would engage in collating actionable information about the activities of such miscreants, their membership and hideouts and taking the battle to their doorsteps.
Members of the team were drawn from Tactical Units, State Intelligence Bureau, Operations Department and State Criminal Investigation Department with ACP Odubona Oludotun, AC Operations as its chairman.
The team was established in response to the recent activities of the miscreants in Ijegun, Itire, Isheri among others where they vandalized some vehicles and destroyed some properties of innocent citizens for no just cause.
11 suspects were initially arrested and charged to court.
Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made pistols, eleven axes, nine cutlasses, four daggers and charms.
The suspects in custody, it was said, were said to being profiled.
The Commissioner of Police was quoted as sending a strong warning to members of the violent gangs that the command would pursue them, subdue them and bring them to justice.
He advised parents to monitor the activities of their children.
The onslaught, he said, would be sustained until sanity was restored to streets and neighborhoods.
