The Police Command in Rivers has launched an investigation into the attempted assassination of a traditional ruler in Khana local government area of the state.
The paramount ruler of Bangha Community, King Suanu Baridam, was reportedly attacked by unidentified gunmen while returning from a meeting in Okwale community.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this to journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday.
She said the leader’s vehicle came under attack during the journey, adding that Baridam sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh.
“The traditional ruler is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility,” Iringe-Koko said.
She said operatives had been deployed to the area to comb the surroundings and apprehend the perpetrators.
“No arrest has been made so far, but investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack,” she added.
Iringe-Koko said a state-wide manhunt had been launched to bring the suspects to justice.
She urged members of the public to remain calm and provide any useful information that could aid security agencies in the investigation.
