Police intercept bunkered fuel-loaded bus, arrest suspect

A bus loaded with bunkered fuel has been intercepted at Ejigbo area of Lagos State, the police have disclosed.

The interception was by policemen attached to the Lagos State Police Command.

According to the spokesman of the command, DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement he issued on Sunday, the policemen led by Sgt Sunday Joseph were on anti-crime monitoring in Canoe area of Ejibgbo on Thursday when the interception was carried out.

A suspect was arrested.

Two other suspects escaped.

Said the spokesman: “On sighting the policemen, the three occupants of the bus jumped down and fled in different directions.

“The policemen pursued them and caught up with one of them while the remaining two jumped into the carnal and escaped.

“The suspect confessed that he and his cohorts loaded the Fiat Bus with registration number LND 825 BC with multiple sacks laden with petrol.”

Elkana said the suspect confessed that they got the fuel from a bust NNPC pipeline in Owutu area in Ikorodu and that they planned to sell it at Ijegun.

While stating that efforts were ongoing to arrest the suspects that escaped, Elkana said NNPC officials had been contacted to decant the product.
