A ban has been placed on unauthorised use of unmarked vehicles and covered number plates across the country.

The order was given by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Adamu Mohammed on Tuesday and made public by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, in a statement he issued.

According to him, the order took immediate effect and all Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in the zonal and state commands had been directed to enforce it.

The order, it was disclosed, followed alleged plot to use such vehicles to carry out electoral malpractices during the coming Governorship and House of Assembly election.

It was also stated that covering of number plates of vehicles was capable of jeopardising national security apart from promoting general criminal activities.
