The police in Ogun State have arrested two men suspected to be specialists in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint in Ijebu-Ode and its environs.
They were arrested on Monday by while making efforts to snatch a motorcycle.
According to DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, police spokesman in Ogun State, the suspects, 27 years old Joshua Michael and 26 years old Emeka Nwanga, were arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ilese-Ijebu, Olusesi Kayode, that armed robbers were about to snatch a motorcycle from its owner around Ikangba Estate Ijebu-Ode.
Upon the call, the DPO quickly mobilised his anti-robbery team to the scene.
On sighting the policemen, the suspects took to their heels but were hotly chased and apprehended with the help of members of the public.
The motorcycle rider and his machine were rescued from the bandits.
Recovered from them also was a locally made double barrel pistol.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
