Police arrest two Ghanaians robbing with acid for snatching truck, goods

Two Ghanaians specialising in robbing with acid have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force.

The men were arrested by the Inspector-General of Police-Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for allegedly robbing a truck driver, Taiwo Adesanya, of his vehicle and goods with acid.

According to the spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, who spoke in Lagos State, the men were alleged to have committed the crime at Olukwu area of Benin City, Edo State on December 9, but arrested in Enugu State.

He said the suspects poured raw acid on their victim after robbing him.

The suspect, Moshood stated, were currently detained in Ikaja, Lagos State.

Giving an insight into their mode of operation, he said they would seek employment as driver and conductor in haulage companies, and after a thorough study, plot ways of carrying out their nefarious activities.

He said after selling the goods upon diversion of the trucks, they would relocate and begin another operation.

The police boss said after attacking Adesanya who was sleeping after a long journey, the Ghanaians went away with the truck containing 600 bags of sugar.

But they ran out of luck against when the owner of the truck reported to the police on the case.

It was based on the report that the police started investigations and made the arrest.

“The team led by CSP Rieniwa swung into action and tracked the suspects to a shrine in Nsukka, Enugu State, from where they were apprehended.

“They have confessed to the crime and they will soon be charged to the court. The victim, who survived the acid attack, was able to recognise the suspects,” Moshood said.
