Police arrest suspected bus snatcher, 26 cult members in Lagos

The Police have arrested one suspected bus snatcher, Yomi Olajide, of 14 Oremeji Street, Toll Gate area of Ogun State, over alleged theft of one LT bus with registration number JJE 713 XH.

The bus was reported to have been stolen where it was parked along Etegbin Road, Shibiri, Lagos.

The case was reported at Ilemba Hausa Police Station by the owner of the bus, Amachi Ude, of 15 Etegbin Road, Lagos at about 7.30 a.m. on Friday.

The police said acting on credible information, investigation was extended to Atan area of Ogun State where the vehicle was recovered.

The suspected bus snatcher, Yomi Olajide, who is 39 years old was caught driving the stolen vehicle.

“In his confessional statement, Olajide stated that himself and one Jamiu (surname unknown) of Toll Gate area of Ogun State who is at large came to remove the said vehicle from where it was parked with their master key, which the Police also recovered from him,” Bala Elkana, the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command said.

According to him, the suspect will be charged to court and effort was being made to apprehend the second suspect.

Meanwhile, following the violent clash between members of two rival cult groups in Bariga and Oworonshoki areas on July 21, 2019, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Zubairu Muazu, has ordered the immediate deployment of operatives of Operation Crush to the two communities.

He gave them the mandate of identifying, isolating and apprehending the leaders and members of the gangsters and cult groups disturbing the peace of the area.

Acting on credible intelligence, 26 suspects were arrested within five days and various assorted weapons were recovered from them.

The suspects, it was gathered, will all be charged to court to face the full weight of the law.
