Police arrest officers who killed Kolade Johnson in Lagos

The police have arrested its officers who, on Sunday, allegedly killed a youth in Mangoro area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, in Lagos State.

The police team were said to have stormed the area to arrest some criminals.

It was gathered that when some youths gathered around them, they allegedly shot into the air to disperse the crowd, but unfortunately the bullet hit the youth, Kolade Johnson.

He was said to be rushed to the General Hospital, Ikeja, where he was confirmed dead.

Residents of the area went on rampage on Sunday, blocking the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

But in a statement issued on Monday, the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana, said the officers allegedly responsible had been arrested.

He said they were identified following the account of eyewitnesses.

Said Elkana: “Members of the team suspected to be involved in the shooting have since been arrested and are currently in Police custody undergoing interrogation.

“They will be subjected to internal disciplinary procedures, and may be prosecuted in conventional Court if implicated by ongoing investigation.”
