Pipeline vandalism: NEMA warns Igando, Ikotun residents against fire

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has warned residents of Igando and Ikotun areas of Lagos against using flammable light of any nature in order to avoid explosion.

Also, the agency has appealed to traders in Ikotun area not to open their shops today.

The warnings followed the spillage of the content of a vandalized pipeline in the areas mentioned.

The agency said although the vandalized pipeline had been repaired, the content had spilled and spread to other areas through drainages.

NEMA in a statement by its top official, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, explained that it got the report of the oil spillage at 0430.

The affected area, it said was Omoboriowo Street at Igando area of Lagos State.

It was reported that the petrol had spilled through drainages to other areas.

Following the alert, the agency said, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and state’s fire service were alerted.

NNPC was said to have shut down the valves in order to suffocate the supply of further content

Efforts were said to be ongoing to decapitate the efficacy of the PMS in order to prevent explosion.

The spilled content in the drainages was said to have been traced Ikotun area of the state.

NEMA explained that blanketing operations were ongoing.

Officials of NEMA, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and police were said to be on ground
