The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has begun a probe into the election of officers into the leadership positions of the National Assembly.

This is with the view to finding the roles its members played in the exercise particularly as opposed to its directives.

A committee has been set up to carry out the probe.

Led by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, the committee has as members, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu; Sen. Stella Omu; Mr Austin Opara; Sen. Abdul Ningi, and Mrs Margaret Icheen.

According to a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the committee was given three weeks to carry out the probe and report to the party.

The party, he said, had been saddled with the task of finding out why some of the legislators on the platform of the PDP did not heed the party’s directive.

It would also find out whether the decisions of the PDP legislators were influenced by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Ologbondiyan added that the committee would also “find out where there are established reasons for taking the action by members, the committee should identify such so that the party can create mutual and political atmosphere for reasonable interaction with senators and Honourable members.”

He stated too that the committee would find out and recommend ways to checkmate such tendencies in the future and ensure that, moving forward, all members work together to defend the interest of the party at all times and circumstances.

It would be recalled that ahead of the election for the leadership of the National Assembly, PDP, endorsed Ali Ndume, calling on its members to vote for him.

This is against the position of the APC, which approved of Ahmed Lawan.

APC candidates won the election beating their opponents with very wide margins.

Lawan emerged the Senate President while Femi Gbajabiamila became Speaker of the House of Representatives.
