Oyo: Govt shuts down school, probes arson, killing

Oyo State Government has shut down Community Grammar School, Olodo, Oyo State, with immediate effect.

The action of the government which takes effect on Monday followed the case of arson in the premises of the school by some hoodlums on Friday after a violent protest by Junior Secondary School students the day before.

The government in a statement by the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Ibironke Fatoki, said a six-man administrative investigative panel had been set up to examine the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

The government added that the panel was expected to submit its report in seven working days.

Fatoki disclosed that a block of 3 classrooms and four cars were burnt during the protest, adding that one life was also lost during the two days of mayhem.
