As part of efforts to tackle the rising security challenges in Osun State, the governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, has appealed to Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai to quickly set up a joint security team to help out.

The team he said would complement the efforts so far made by the state to tackle security challenges.

According to a statement released by Mr. Adeniyi Adesina, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Oyetola made the appeal when he met with the Chief of Army Staff, Buratai, in Abuja.

The visit, he said, was a follow up to the letter he had earlier written to him on the security situation in the state.

It would be recalled that the state government had promised that a joint security team of policemen, soldiers and other security agencies would be set up to patrol the highways and dark spots in the state.

In the statement, it was also disclosed that a security summit would soon be held by governors of South West State of the country.

The summit, it was explained, was to come up with strategies to combat the increasing crime rate in the South West.

The, move, it was added, would ensure security of lives and property particularly on the Ibadan-Akure Road which had been invaded by bandits.

Buratai, in his response, was quoted as giving the assurance that he would give the necessary support to ensure security in Osun State.

He stated that the Army would continue to support the police in ensuring security in the country in general.
