The Ondo State Head of Service, Pastor John Adeniran Adeyemo, has reiterated the commitment of the state to continue to support the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, scheme.

Adeyemo made this remark on Tuesday when he hosted the State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, at the secretariat.

Adeyemo said that the Ondo State government, in line with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s eight point agenda would collaborate with the scheme to actualise the rural and agricultural development programme designed to make the state a foreign exchange earner and source of wealth to both the citizens and residents.

“Ondo State is blessed with fertile land mass of over 14 million square kilometres and long coastal environment to support an unimaginable quantum of agricultural activities beyond the present subsistent level.

“We are committed to solving numerous challenges confronting the state such as youth unemployment, decline in revenue to mention but a few. We are taking critical look at how we can empower our teeming youths to turn our potentials in agriculture to solution for the aforementioned challenges”.

Adeyemo said the state, through the agric business has also designed a programme tagged ‘Youths on the Ridges’ which is modified to revolutionise agriculture.

“The Ondo State Government is therefore confident that agriculture will play a key role in the creation of job opportunities and increased revenue and support for crops, livestock generation through the promotion and fisheries production” he said.

The Head of Service promised to present the requests of the state coordinator to the appropriate quarters and expressed confident that there would be light at the end of the tunnel.

Earlier, Ani congratulated the Head of Service for his track records which earned him the prestigious position.

The state coordinator appealed to the Head of Service to use his good offices to help secure befitting office accommodation in the state as the present accommodation had become grossly inadequate due to expansion experienced in the scheme in recent years.

The NYSC Ondo State boss used the occasion to invite the Head of Service to visit the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko to see the development efforts of the NYSC management to turn the place around.

Said she: “Head of Service Sir, NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko is one of the oldest camps in Nigeria and I want to appreciate the government and good people of Ondo State for the infrastructural development witnessed in the last four years. But like Oliver Twist, the hostel accommodation is still far from being adequate and I want to appeal to you to use your privileged position to assist us.

“It would interest you to know that from our end, and through Public Private Partnership (PPP), we have constructed multi million naira modern Camp Clinic which we hope to commission it very soon. Not only that, we have equally embarked on various projects to give the camp a facelift.

“Being the first contact and point of call of prospective corps members deployed to Ondo State, it would be better for this patriotic and illustrious Nigerians from all parts of the country to have a positive mindset and disposition about the state, and this can be achieved if the camp environment is conducive enough to prepare them to give their best during the service year.”

Ani promised to post corps members in various professional callings as might be requested by the engine room of the administration in the state.

She wished the Head of Service a very fruitful tenure and thanked him for the audience.
