The Ondo State Head of Service, Mr. Dare Aragbaiye has reiterated the commitment of the state government to improved welfare of corps members posted to the state.
According to him, the Rotimi Akeredolu government had put every machinery in place to ensure that members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, were optimally utilised to achieve the accelerated transformation of the state.
He made the remarks when he hosted the Ondo State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio in his office recently.
He praise Akpabio for her maturity and tenacity in handling the all issues relating to corps members in the state.
Aragbaiye said that the reforms in the civil service had factored in the engagement of corps members, noting that various MDAs and NGOs had been advised not to reject the services of corps members posted to them for their primary assignment.
He explained that although the state government was yet to recruit more permanent teachers, it had directed the Teaching Service Commission to intimate the Office of the Head of Service of their need so that corps members in relevant fields would be engaged.
“The current administration of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) is trying within the limited available resources to inject more qualified teachers into the system and we are looking in the direction of the NYSC because you have adequate human resources to complement our efforts.
“The position of the Ondo Government is to engage more trained and competent corps members to fill the shortfall and I am confident that those engaged would be adequately motivated so that they can give their very best.”
Earlier, Akpabio expressed the deep and sincere appreciation of all the corps members serving in the state to the government for creating conducive environment for them to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
She observed that the civil service, as the engine room of the governance in the state, should be the highest corps employer as a way of showing support and solidarity to the laudable scheme and should desist from rejecting the patriotic Nigerians.
She hinted that the number of graduate youths being mobilised for the programme every year from various tertiary institutions both at home and in diaspora were greater than the number of available places of primary assignment.
Mrs. Grace Akpabio equally lamented that corps members serving in various government owned schools were either underpaid or not paid at all while some worked under hazardous environments.
The NYSC boss appealed to the Office of the Head of Service to look into the matter and assist the scheme as that would encourage the corps members to serve the nation diligently and patriotically.
On the Camp Clinic project, Akpabio appealed to the Head of Service to use his good offices to attract donors towards timely completion of the edifice.
