Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs Victoria Nnenna Ani, has appealed to the headship of Customs Area Office and the Nigeria Immigration Service in the state to support tangible projects of corps members.
Speaking during her courtesy call on the two offices, Ani said NYSC remained the platform that uniting every ethnic and tribe of Nigeria.
The state coordinator said her visit was to familiarise herself with the commands and to seek improved relationships between the NYSC and the two organisations.
“I am aware of the existing cordial relationship that has been blossoming between NYSC and your office and my mission is to seek for enhanced relationships. Your office has been honouring invitations to our programmes and events but the COVID -19 has restricted all such.
“My prayers is that Coronavirus pandemic should pack its bags and go and never to come back again so that we can return to our usual ways of doing things. Nigerians are happy wherever they find themselves but this COVID -19 protocols have made things a new normal.”
Ani said that NYSC would continue to mould and shape the future of graduate youths so that they would be able to make effective contributions to the nation’s growth and development.
Responding at the Command Headquarters of Nigeria Immigration Service, the Comptroller of Immigration, Mrs. Ibong Osato Aideyan, said that Immigration Service like NYSC was established to serve people and humanity.
Adeiyan who served in the old Gongola, which comprised of the present Adamawa and Yobe states disclosed that NYSC had always been outstanding in mentoring the graduate youths of Nigeria.
The Comptroller, while informing the State Coordinator that the command was in the process of resuscitating the command’s clinic requested the NYSC boss to avail her command the services of corps doctors and other paramedical personnel.
“We are neighbours and besides this, the Forum of Heads of Federal Government Establishments and Institutions in Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter has made us one indivisible entity,” she concluded.
Speaking when she hosted the Ani in her office, the Customs Area Controller, Ondo/Ekiti Command, Mrs. Florence Inuk, said that NYSC as an institution had made her mark through purposeful deployment of corps members to all areas of national need.
The Customs Area Controller who is a Public Relations professional and Akwa Ibom State indigene, highlighted the statutory functions of her command.
According to her, the principal functions of the command included exercising customs control on the commercial international exchange; assessing and collecting customs duties and taxes in the part calculated at the state’s border (VAT excise); and fighting against smuggling activity and counteracting customs fraud.
Both the Customs Area Controller and Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service welcomed the state coordinator to Ondo, and wished her a successful tenure in office.
