The much publicised Nigerian Youths Walk Against Corruption organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and National Youth Service Corps took place at Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Leading over 500 corps members in the 10 million man march, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, said that corruption should be dismantled in all the spheres of our lives.

According to her, all hands must be on deck to ensure that new order should be employed to do things in the right and legitimate ways.

She charged the youths to have the fear of God and desist from engaging in sharp practices which ultimately leads to regret.

The EFCC team leader, Mr. Joshua Oloye, charged the youths to support the Commission in her fight against corrupt practices which has made Nigeria a laughing stock in the comity of nations.

Mr. Oloye believed that the Commission would get it right by engaging the most active strata of the society, which is the youths, to change the face of the country for the better.

In her goodwill message, the Chairperson, National Council for Women Society, Ondo State Chapter, Pastor (Mrs.) Jumoke Aborede, advised the Nigerian youths to think of what they could do for the country and not the other way round.

The chairperson of the NCWS pledged the support of the Nigerian women to sensitise the general public on the ills of corruption in the country which she disclosed would start from the home.

The President of NYSC/EFCC Community Development Service group, corps member Damilola Akinlade admonished his colleagues to wage unrelenting war against the hydra-headed monster which had made the average Nigerian to perceive corruption as connection.

The corps member challenged Nigerian youths to emulate statesmen such as late Chief Jeremiah Obafemi, Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and some first generation patriotic Nigerians who placed the country above individual and selfish considerations.

“Let us come together as the future of this great country and tell the outside world that we have what it takes to rid our nation of corruption and other negative tendencies. Let us rise up and walk the talk” he said.

The walk which started at the Ondo State Cultural Centre, Adegbemile, Akure terminated at Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola Freedom Park in the heart of Akure.

Both NYSC and EFCC staff as well as security and uniformed agencies such as Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and National Council for Women Society took active participation in the awareness walk.

The NYSC Parade Band provided the tonic to ginger the participants while the Medical and Health Community Development Service group were on hand and provided first aid services.
