The Department of State Services, DSS, places high premium on the lives of members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, across the country.

The Ondo State Director of Security, Department of State Services, Mr. Emmanuel Esomonu, made the declaration when he hosted the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, in his office on Wednesday.

This is as he said that the DSS would ensure that citizen’s rights were not trampled upon during the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State.

“I want to assure the NYSC management that we shall not shirk in our responsibility as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, to ensure that our mandate is upheld at all times.

“On our own part, we have sworn to the Constitution to protect the sovereignty of Nigeria and I want the NYSC management to interact with the corps members to remain committed to the ideals of the national service.

“NYSC is known globally as a reputable youth organisation and it behoves on the members of the service corps to remain resolute and not to give-in to overtures of people that may want to compromise them before and during the election”.

He disclosed that his office would work with NYSC during the election and promised that identified flashpoints would be given priority surveillance.

The NYSC boss, Akpabio had gone to the DSS office in Akure to solicit watertight security for corps members that would participate in Ondo State gubernatorial election coming up in October this year.

Akpabio who described the relationship between the Department of State Services and NYSC as extremely cordial pleaded with the director to influence decision in favour of NYSC during the INEC stakeholders meeting that would come up before the election.

The NYSC boss promised that she would involve members of the management team in the state to explore all means to extensively discuss the issue of compromise raised by the DSS before the gubernatorial election.
