The senator representing Delta Central at the National Assembly, Ovie Omo-Agege, has accused Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of impunity and bigotry, stating that he is doing that at his own peril.

Omo-Agege made the accusation on Wednesday in a statement in reaction to the allegation by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Isah Hamma Misau.

Misau alleged that Omo-Agege (Delta Central) was making spirited efforts to stop the leadership of the National Assembly from considering the ad-hoc committee’s report on the theft of the mace last year.

He said in order to prevent that, he had been abusing judicial process and the generosity of the leadership of the Senate by taking some actions capable of bringing down the Senate.

But in his reaction, Omo-Agege debunked the allegation of daring the Senate.

He said he was rather daring Saraki to continue with impunity and bigotry.

He also accused Saraki of being cowardly over the statement issued by Misau.

“This is the hand of Esau and the voice of Jacob. It is cowardly for Saraki to have Senator Misau sign his (Saraki’s) press release,” Omo-Agege said.

He said Saraki needed to update his knowledge of the constitution and the law.

His words: “Nowhere in the Constitution is he granted the right to investigate crimes. He should be counseled that the ancillary powers derivable from section 88 of the 1999 constitution must be exercised in furtherance of law making and not witch-hunting. Only the Nigeria Police Force has the powers to investigate crimes.

“Omo-Agege has not dared the Senate and would never do so. He has instead dared Saraki to continue with his impunity and bigotry at his own peril.

“The Kwara electorate have had enough of Saraki’s impunity and excesses and so do we. A terminal date has been fixed and in a while the whole country will breathe a sigh of relief.”

It would be recalled that some hoodlums invaded the National Assembly last year and snatched the mace, the symbol of the legislature.

The mace was later recovered.

However, the Senate has since accused Omo-Agege of being the mastermind.

An ad-hoc committee was set up to probe the matter with a view to finding out those behind the crime and prevent a re-occurrence.

Omo-Agege has however obtained from a High Court in Bwari-Abuja, an injunction restraining the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives from considering the report of the adhoc committtee set up by both chambers.
