The Police Command in Ogun has dismantled an alleged “baby factory” at Abaren Village, Mowe, arresting six suspects, including an attending nurse.
Two pregnant women and four children were rescued.
The command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
Opeyemi said the operation was conducted on Monday at about 8:00 a.m. following sustained intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
Opeyemi said the operatives stormed the syndicate hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe, where the victims and children were rescued.
She noted that the pregnant women were seven and eight months pregnant respectively.
The police spokesperson said that the four children, comprises of two males and two females, were recovered from the premises during the raid.
She added that follow-up operations led detectives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim had been delivered of a baby boy on Thursday.
According to her, the mother was receiving medical treatment at the hospital, but the whereabouts of her newborn remained unknown, leading to the arrest of the attending nurse.
“The case is currently being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
“The command will establish the full extent of the syndicate activities and ensure the prosecution of every culpable suspect. The public will be kept informed as further developments unfold,” she said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information to support intelligence-led policing and protect lives.
