The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign rally held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Monday was disrupted as some hoodlums believed to belong to the Allied People’s Movement, APM, went violent.
They chased supporters of the ruling APC away and mounted guard at the entrances of the MKO Abiola International Stadium, venue of the rally.
At different points, Governor Ibikunle Amosun pleaded with the hoodlums not to disrupt the event but to no avail.
They chanted anti-Dapo Abiodun slogans at the event.
Although there had been cases of disorderliness all over the venue, it became almost uncontrollable when President Muhammadu Buhari raised the hand of Dapo Abiodun up as the governorship candidate to be voted for by APC supporters.
In fact, the president could not complete his speech as the hoodlums pelted the dignitaries on the stage with sticks, bottled water, satchet water among other things.
The convoys of the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, were stoned with sticks, pet bottles and satchet water.
It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress is divided over the governorship candidacy for Ogun State.
While the governor is in support of Abiodun Akinlade Dapo Abiodun is the approved candidate of the APC.
Following the failure to have Akinlade emerge as the candidate of the party, he moved to the APM with the approval of Amosun.
Amosun is supporting the APM candidate against that of the APC.
Amosun remains in APC.
