Four men have been arrested by the police in Ogun State in connection with the death of a policeman, PC Agada Akoh.

The policeman was said to have been beaten to death at Dalemo area of Sango Ota on Sunday, September 13, 2020.

The suspects are 22 years old Jelili Ismaila; 34 years old Amidu Bankole; 36 years old Elijah Samson, and 34 years old Moses Proboye.

The suspects were apprehended following information received by the police at Sango division at about 9:30 p.m. that a policeman had been beaten to a state of coma by some hoodlums at Dalemo Bus Stop.

Consequent upon the information, the DPO, CSP Godwin Idehai, led his men to the scene where he met the policeman in the pool of his own blood.

The officer was quickly rushed to the general hospital Ota for medical care but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased officer and one other escorted their principal from Idah in Kogi State to Lagos State.

On their way, at Sango Ota, a truck driver Jelili Ismaila drove dangerously and almost pushed their vehicle off the road.

While trying not to hit the vehicle conveying the officers, the truck entered a pothole as a result of which its tyre got punctured.

That was said to have made the two policemen to come down and cautioned the truck driver to always be mindful of other road users, but the driver accused them of being at fault.

He was said to have thereby mobilised hoodlums who attacked the officers and their principal with dangerous weapons.

Eventually, they were said to have beaten the deceased to a state of coma.

The police spokesman in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who gave the account in a statement he issued, said having realised that the policeman might not survive the attack, the driver and his hired hoodlums took to their heels.

They were however arrested following a tip off which led the DPO and his men to the hideout where they were arrested.

Four others were said to have escaped.

The remains of the deceased officer, the police said, had been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Ota.

The Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, who described the incident as barbaric and act of lawlessness was said to have ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining suspects.

He also warned that unwarranted attack on his men was unacceptable and would not be tolerated.

The CP therefore directed that the arrested suspects be transferred to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for an in-depth investigation and diligent prosecution.
