The donation of a block of four class rooms, toilets and borehole by Build-A-School Initiative for Africa, BASIA, to St. Peters Primary School, Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State, will go a long way in reducing the number of ‘out-of-school children’ and enhance quality of education.
The deputy governor of Ogun State, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, made this assertion on Monday when he commissioned the new facilities.
She commended the organisation for the initiative.
The deputy governor noted that although the NGO had its footprints in about four to five states of the federation, the interest in Ogun State was specially appreciated.
She lauded the donor, Dr Victor Ukorebi, for the interest in Ogun State where about three schools had been built and commissioned by the organisation.
While thanking the former Assistant Head Teacher of the school, Mr. Adejare Yakubu, for bringing the plight of the school to her attention earlier before BASIA’s intervention.
“We look forward to your participation because we know we can’t do it alone,” said the deputy governor who urged the school authority, alumni and the community to take ownership of the newly built classes.
Salako revealed that the state government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun was currently working on 900 different schools across the state through the ‘Yellow Roof Revolution’ in other to bring them to an acceptable standard.
She said with an improved welfare package for teachers across the state and other giant strides of the government in education, there was assurance that the present administration would continue to do its best in the efforts to provide affordable and quality education for the citizens.
The handing over ceremony was witnessed by Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in the state, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Abosede Ogunleye; Senator Kamal Akin Odunsi; former House of Representative member, Hon. Kazeem Salako; traditional rulers in Ado-Odo/Ota local government led by Olota of Otaland, Oba Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege.
The monarch in his remarks also appealed to corporate bodies to support the government in giving quality education to the people of the state.
