No fewer than 70 unregistered motorcycles were impounded on Wednesday by a joint task force set up by Ogun State Police command in conjunction with other security agencies.

The task force was set up following the alleged involvement of riders of unregistered motorcycles in disorderly behaviour and wanton destruction of properties by okada riders.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police said the impounded motorcycles would not be released until their owners provided evidence of their registration, and the number plates which must be fixed on the motorcycles.

The operation which commenced on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the police said, would be extended to other parts of the state in the coming weeks.

The operation was coordinated by the assistant commissioner of police in charge of operations, ACP Bolanle Muritala.
