The principal suspect in the April 15, 2018, Offa, Kwara State, bank robbery, Michael Adikwu, has died in police custody in Abuja.

The robbery, it would be recalled, led to the death of no fewer than 31 persons, including policemen.

The Kwara State Commissioner for Justice, Kamal Ajibade, made this known on Wednesday in Ilorin.

He told the Ilorin High Court where the suspects of the robbery operation were arraigned that he was informed of his death by the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the head of intelligence team of the Inspector-General of Police, Abba Kyari.

He however did not state the circumstances that surrounded the death of the suspect.

He sought and got the permission of the court for an adjournment to allow for an amendment of the charges and removal of the name of the deceased since he could no longer stand trial.

Those arraigned on Wednesday were Ayoade Akinnibosun; Ibikunle Ogunleye; Adeola Abraham; Salaudeen Azeez and Niyi Ogundiran.

The charges against them are Criminal Conspiracy, Armed Robbery and Culpable Homicide.

The crimes contravened the provisions of sections 6 (b) 1(2) of the Armed Robbery and Firearms Act and 221 of the Penal Code.

The suspected armed robbers stormed some banks on April 15, killing no fewer than 31 persons, including policemen.

After a manhunt, the suspects were arrested and have gone through interrogations.

The investigations soon took a different dimension as the suspects were said to have a link with Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki had since made statements over the alleged link to the suspects.
