Odumakin’s death: How Keyamo, Dele Momodu, Sowore, others react

Shock and total sadness characterised the reactions of Nigerians to the death of the spokesman of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin.

Odumakin, Saturday morning, was reported to have died of COVID-19 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Lagos.

In their different reactions, Odumakin’s friends and Nigerians in general took to the social media to express shock and sadness over his death.

Some of those who reacted are publisher of Ovation magazine, Chief Dele Momodu; publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Uhuru Times, Mr. Wale Adedayo and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Keyamo, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi.

Their reactions read:

Omoyele Sowore: Death is a necessary end! Sad to announce this passing of a friend and fighter, Yinka Odumakin. Rest in Power, Senior Comrade!

Festus Keyamo: Yinka’s death is a personal loss to me. Himself & the wife, Joe, have been my long-time friends & allies. I knew them separately before they met & got married. I just called the wife’s line & they’re still at the hospital. My deepest condolences to Josephine & the Odumakin family.

Dele Momodu: I slept about 5.30am this morning and had to switch off my phones, something I rarely do… Unknown to me TOKUNBO AFIKUYOMI, a mutual friend of YINKA ODUMAKIN and I was trying frantically to reach me… Then I woke up and my first phone froze bec of endless messages. I called Tokunbo and he was weeping… This is just so sad. YINKA, please, REST IN PEACE…

Yinka Oyebode: We have lost a dependable voice. You are a true friend Yinka Odumakin.

Wale Adedayo: This is a very big tragedy for Yorubaland. A very sad day! May the soul of Comrade Yinka Odumakin find peace with our ancestors in the bossom of Olodumare!

  • So sad to hear of Mr Yinka Odumakin’s passing I pray the Almighty console Mrs Joe Odumakin, the entire family and all those that had contact with him.
