Don’t get carried away by the ecstasies of your new post, get down to work.

This is the advice of the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election, Peter Obi, to President Muhammadu Buhari and all the governors sworn in on Wednesday.

He said the warning became necessary because there was so much work for them to do in the area of developing the country.

His warning is contained in a press statement by his media aide, Mr Val Obienyem.

Obi also described the swearing as a very special day as it coincided with the commemoration of the 20 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.

“Do not allow the ecstasies of your elevation to becloud your sense of purpose,” he said.

He added: “How you start will define how you will continue and probably end.”

He said rather than get carried away, the occasion should be an opportunity for them to reflect on the country and map out ways of improving the situation.

“You are embarking on a serious journey. Our country is today negative in all indices of development.

“Our power sector, security, health sector are crying for regeneration. Today, the unemployment rate in the country is alarming.

“It is regrettable that our electoral processes are still a far cry to what it ought to be and urgent attention is needed to pull the country from the brinks,” he said.
