OAU: Police take over investigation into death of student in septic tank

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Osun State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has taken over the investigation of the circumstances that led to the death of a part two student of the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Miss Ajibola Heritage Ayomikun.

This was made known on Friday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement his issued.

Heritage, who resided in one of the private hostels, BVER, fell into the septic tank of the hostel through an opening that was allegedly not properly covered.

The incident occurred on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Olarewaju said the owner of the private hostel, BVER, where the incidence occurred had been issued a query by the university management and his response was being awaited.

He explained that all the hostels in the students village are privately owned and they are not under the control of the university.

According to him, the university management presently only had oversight functions on the private hostels.
