The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, scheme is a blessing to Nigeria, the Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Robert Ajayi Boroffice, has declared.

According to him, the unifying role of the scheme had sustained the country as an indivisible entity.

Boroffice made the remark on Wednesday when he hosted the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio in his office.

The politician observed that the content of the service should be enhanced in a way that more qualified participants would be looking forward to participating in it.

That he said, would put a stop to the tendency to evade it.

He lauded the NYSC management for its empowerment drive through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme which he said had  taken some of the participants looking for white collar jobs off the streets.

“NYSC has in the last seven years evolved a programme that is designed to take our graduates off the streets looking for non-existent jobs and this is really commendable. I will not hesitate to collaborate with the scheme to empower more youths in my senatorial district as well as the Sunshine State in general.

“The quality services members of the National Youth Service Corps are rendering to the nation through their selfless service in various communities they are deployed is a pointer to the fact that given necessary encouragement, the youth will take this country to the next level of leadership and economic development,” he said.

He promised to, in conjunction with his colleagues in the National Assembly, use his position to attract more assistance to the scheme.

Boroffice tasked NYSC management to ensure that the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme for the corps members was broadened to accommodate more skills.

That, according to the Senator, would engender the spirit of competitive entrepreneurship among the graduates which would ultimately lead to self-reliance after the mandatory one year service to the fatherland.

Senator Boroffice acknowledged the positive role of the scheme in the state with the posting of corps members to the core areas of needs for their primary assignment which he said had contributed significantly to the four key areas of posting policy namely health, education, agriculture and rural development in the state.

In her remarks, the State Coordinator, NYSC, Ondo State, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, eulogised the politician for his developmental roles in the society which she said had  given birth to the establishment of skill centres in the senatorial district and empowerment of the less-privileged.

The coordinator requested the senator to visit the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp located within his district and contribute towards making it one of the best training grounds for graduates in the country.

“My distinguished Senator, I want you to personally visit the orientation camp to see the good works which the Ondo State Government, under the dynamic and impressive leadership of our performing Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN) is doing. This will further encourage you to complement the government and contribute your quota to upgrade the structures and facilities there in”.

The NYSC boss appealed to Boroffice to rally supports from philanthropists and well to do citizens and residents of the state to develop the legacy bequeathed to the district by the Federal Government.
