The coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Lagos State, Mr. Eddy Megwa has asserted that the scheme remained the only one that is producing worthy nation builders.

Megwa made the assertion when he addressed dislodged Lagos State corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

“My worthy ambassadors of state of the aquatic splendour, I am pleased to address you today because you have proven to be of sound character going by the reports given by my colleague and host Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani.

“National Youth Service Corps is the only scheme where graduates from various backgrounds are pooled together to contribute meaningfully to national development and I have no doubt that you have began the process with your dislodgement to the Sunshine State.

“Federal Government of Nigeria has placed value on you and you need to enhance the value by allowing the scheme to pass through you. What do I mean? You need to be the agent of change we desire in this country”.

The coordinator said the time was ripe to change from the old ways of doing things.

Megwa said that the corps members should not discard the good idea of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme established nine years ago.

“I am happy to tell you that an ex-corps member in Lagos who embraced Photography as a skill during the service year is today toast of many celebrities and notable personalities who invite him for engagement across the globe.

“You can create your own world and become the person of your dream. Let me however tell you that of all the great personalities we are all admiring, none has made it under the roofs of their parents. I am not saying you should not take tutelage under them but you need to create identity for yourself just the way they created for themselves”.

He said that the three weeks orientation course is designed to prepare the corps members for the challenges of post tertiary education and charged them to be disciplined and obey all camp rules.

In her short opening remarks, the host state coordinator, Ani thanked her Lagos State counterpart for coming down to see and appreciate the excellent welfare his corps members were exposed to in Ondo State.

She said the dislodged corps members were well disciplined and participated enthusiastically in all programmes and activities.

One of the dislodged corps member, Aje, Iyanuoluwa Charity with code number LA/21A/4712 appreciated the two State Coordinators for their love, parental care and quality mentoring extended to them while Ozurumba, Bright Chimma with code number LA/21A/4716 presented a gift on behalf of her compatriots to Mr. Eddy Megwa.
