The National Youth Service Corps, Ondo State, has formally admitted 1022 prospective corps members who were deployed to the state for the mandatory one year national service.
The number which was made up of 470 males and 552 females swore to the Oath of Allegiance during the swearing in ceremony held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
The prospective corps members promised at all times and in all places to speak first as Nigerian.
The oath was administered by the Chief Judge of Ondo State who was represented by Justice Ademola Enikuomeyin.
The inductees, who were mobilised from all the states of the country pledged to follow at all times the leadership of those in authority irrespective of their social and educational background.
They vowed to tackle difficulties and challenges in a disciplined and self-reliant manner, and to constitutionally pursue grievances and properly channel such for redress.
The members of the service corps who are prepared to serve honestly and faithfully promised to shun bribery and all forms of corruption and nepotism.
The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu reiterated the commitment of his administration to create conducive environment for the patriotic Nigerians to serve their fatherland.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Dotun Owanikin, said that the Ondo State would continue to provide adequate security and enhanced welfare for the corps members.
In her introductory speech, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, reminded the participants that the orientation course had been packaged to “among other things, introduce you to the objectives and programmes of the NYSC scheme, prepare you for the challenges of the service year and post service life.”
Akpabio admonished them to actively participate in all the camp activities and comport themselves as mature youths, “and approach any of my officers in case you need any assistance or clarification.”
The State Coordinator informed the gathering that the NYSC management in the state was making steady progress on the on-going construction of Camp Clinic, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Centre and Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) Studio extension projects.
“I wish to reiterate that your individual and collective contributions towards the completion of these projects will make Ondo State stand tall among the committee of states in the federation. Your widow’s mite will make our target date for completion achievable.”
She disclosed that the scheme now has a South West Area Coordinator who is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing NYSC activities in the six states of the South West geopolitical zone to improve the welfare of corps members.
The NYSC boss thanked the government, the people of the state as well as other stakeholders for always making the service year conducive for the members of the service corps.
