The Federal High Court, Ibadan will on Thursday, give judgement to determine the fate of the Minister of Communication, Mr. Adebayo Shittu.
The minister filed a suit against the All Progressives Congress, APC, for denying him the opportunity to contest in the primary for the governorship election of Oyo State.
He said he was denied following his failure to participate in the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, scheme.
Represented by Mr. Abdulhakeem Mustafa (SAN), the minister argued that the ground on which he was disqualified was wrong.
He said the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria required anyone seeking to be a state governor to have a maximum of Senior Secondary School Certificate and not necessarily having an NYSC certificate.
In his reaction, Mr. Adebayo Ojo, who is the defence counsel, described the matter as a mere academic exercise.
He said a similar case at the Federal High Court had been struck out.
His words: “My lord, the plaintiff is merely flogging a dead horse because the matter is of no benefit to him or the party, APC.
“It has become academic; the sister case he filed in Federal High Court, Abuja, has also been struck out.”
After the written addresses by the plaintiff and the defendants, Justice P.I. Ajoku, declared that judgment on the relieves sought by the minister would be given on Thursday.
