NYSC: Akeredolu wants corps members stay back in Ondo

The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has expressed his desire for corps members to remain and serve the nation in his state because of its secured environment.

Akeredolu stated this at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko during the Terminal Parade for 2019 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members deployed to the state.

Governor Akeredolu said that the state would continually ensure that the security and welfare of corps members posted to the state received priority attention.

“I want to assure you that our administration will see to your excellent hospitality by the government and the good people of our dear state. Ondo State is relatively peaceful and secured. I urge you to be security conscious.”

He admonished the corps members to impact positively on the host communities and transfer the knowledge acquired during the skill acquisition training to better their lots and stem the tide of youth unemployment in the society.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dotun Owanikin, enjoined the corps members to cultivate a healthy relationship with the people of host communities.

“There is need for you to integrate and appreciate the culture and traditions of the people, while at the same time encouraging you to live peacefully with them and refrain from engaging in local politics.”

Akeredolu tasked them to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of the state and encouraged them to put in their best and contribute productively in whatever sector of the economy they might be posted.

“Your predecessors made a sacrifice that has endeared the scheme in the hearts of all and sundry. I hope you will not disappoint the citizens of this country who have implicit trust in your capabilities to serve the nation relentlessly.”

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, warned the 2,056 registered corps members in the state against indecent and inappropriate dressing whenever they put on the NYSC uniform.

Akpabio further disclosed that the laudable scheme would not hesitate to deal decisively and mete out appropriate sanctions on erring and recalcitrant corps members who put the name of NYSC into disrepute.

Akpabio passionately appealed to the members of the service corps to desist from embarking on frivolous journeys as the management had put in place adequate measures to safeguard them during the service year.

The colourful closing ceremony witnessed march past in slow and quick order before the galaxy of distinguished guests, majority of who are the corps employers that are looking forward to receiving the patriotic Nigerians for the one year mandatory service to the fatherland.
