A Save Our Soul, SOS, has been sent to the Oyo State government over an alleged invasion of the secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Oyo State chapter.

Alhaji Waidi Adeoyo, a leader of the union in Oyo State, made the call in Ibadan on Monday.

The secretariat was said to have been invaded by a faction led by Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi (Auxilliary).

Adeoyo made the call while speaking with journalists on the “illegal invasion” of the state secretariat of the union at Agbowo area on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Sunday.

He described the invasion as barbaric, crude and an affront on the state government and national leadership of the union.

He said it was unlawful for anyone to go against the order of the state government.

Adeoyo said act allegedly by Auxiliary was a breach of  the peace being enjoyed by the union since the inception of the present administration in the state.

He said, “Part of the achievement of Governor Seyi Makinde in 100 days in office is maintaining peace, law and order but someone just woke up somewhere trying to breach the peace.

“We are still appealing to our amiable Governor Makinde to lift the ban on our activities but Auxiliary in his crude way tried to flout the governor’s order.

“We are calling on Governor Makinde, new President of NUTRW and security agencies to call Auxiliary to order and curb his excesses in order to forestall further breakdown of law and order, as well as protection of life and property of innocent members and citizens.

“I want to say categorically that anyone who wants to lead a union like ours should be a law abiding citizen, not someone who likes to take law into his hand.

“We don’t want those crises that had happened in the past in the union to repeat itself. NURTW has moved beyond those period, we are now refined and moving with the tide of modernisation.”

Adeoyo pointed out that in every decent setting the leadership is chosen through democratic means not by force.

He said it was on that note that he appealed to “authentic” members of the union in the state who wish to lead the union to keep calm and wait till the governor lifts the ban on the union.
