Niger: Government imposes curfew over killing of village head

The governor Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, has imposed dusk-to-dawn curfew on Lambata, Gurara local government area of the state as a result of the clash that led to the killing of the village head, Mohammed Abdulsafur.

Abdulsafur of Lambata was said to have been killed on Saturday by some hoodlums during a clash.

Announcing the imposition of the curfew, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, said on Sunday that directive was given by the governor.

He said the curfew would be from 6 p.m, to 6 a.m. beginning from Sunday till further notice.

The essence of the restriction, he announced, was to enable security agencies to put the situation under control in order to save lives and property.

The government urged the people of the area to cooperate with security agencies in order to return normalcy.
