The Senate on Tuesday joined the House of Representatives by approving N30,000 as the nation’s new minimum wage.

The amount is more than the N27,000 contained in the proposal forwarded to the National Assembly through the National Minimum Wage Act (Amendment) Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senate adopted the recommendation of its ad-hoc committee on the new national minimum wage.

The Acting Chairman of the Committee, Senator Francis Alimekhina, presented the recommendation.

The committee also recommended that any defaulting employer should be made to pay a fine of N75,000.
