The Medical Women Association of Nigeria, MWAN, has expressed its determination and commitment to support women related organisations in order to enhance women empowerment and growth.
The president of MWAN, Lagos State chapter, Dr Ibironke Sodeinde, made assertion when the association collaborated with Bright Hope For Widows Initiative, BHFWI, as part of activities marking International Women Day.
MWAN president urged women not to quit but to challenge any problem that might face them.
Sodeinde challenged the widows never to quit amidst the challenges of life and remain steadfast despite their negative experiences.
She counselled the women not to engage in anything that would threaten their well-being and to remain health conscious at all times.
She further urged the women to celebrate themselves beyond their challenges which she said was key to having fulfilment in life.
MWAN delegation later donated foodstuffs such as bags of rice, gari cartons of spaghetti, cooking oil and several items to the NGO
In her welcome address, Dr. Mrs. Foluke Omosehin, who is the president and founder of BHFWI, expressed profound appreciation on behalf of her group to MWAN for the visit.
She outlined the goal and objectives of BHFWI and further remarked that BHFWI was an organisation formed to bring succour to widows and build in them a strong hope to live.
“The NGO is to put smiles on their faces and enable them see widowhood as a challenge and not a curse,” she said.
Before the donation, Sodeinde also addressed the widows, explaining the significance of the IWD and charged them to celebrate themselves and challenge everything that was against women.
In response, one of the 26 widows in attendance appreciated MWAN Lagos on behalf of the other widows.
The Secretary of BHFWI, Mrs. ‘Biyi Tunji-Olugbodi also thanked Sodeinde and MWAN Lagos for the kind gesture.
Sodeinde was accompanied by Dr. Yemisi Kila, immediate past secretary and Dr. Funmi Ige, immediate past treasurer, and the Admin Officer, Mr. Luqman Raji.
