Live a life worthy of emulation during your service year, the Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, has charged graduate youths.
Ani made the charge on Thursday while briefing prospective corps members deployed to Ondo State and their counterparts dislodged from Lagos State.
She said they should justify the huge investment expended on them by both their respective families and the federal government and live a disciplined life that the nation would be proud of.
“Prospective corps members, service year should be seen as a period to be prudent and not a season to be extravagant or live ostentatious life.
“The society, especially the younger ones should see you as role models whose conduct and carriage will make them to determine under any circumstance to be like you. The society should not see you as bad influence to younger ones.
“Let me tell you again that orientation programme as designed by the National Youth Service Corps is to give you proper perspective of life after the four walls of the citadels of learning and better understanding of what you are to meet in larger society.
“One of the key components of the NYSC scheme is to entrench into your psyche the ability to live with one another peacefully irrespective of cultural background, ethnic groups and religious beliefs. In one sentence, NYSC is all about unity and integration.”
The NYSC Ondo State boss stated the code of conduct expected of the participants and warned that anyone who flouted the rules and regulations governing the camp administration would be dealt with in line with the NYSC Bye Law.
“At this juncture, let me reiterate that we would not look the other way if you refuse to observe wholly the protocol of Coronavirus pandemic as put forward by the Presidential Task Force on COVID -19 and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
“Every participants of this orientation course must as a matter of obligation use face mask, observe social/physical distancing during programmes and activities” she said.
“Another important information I wish to let you know is the security situation in the nation. Every citizen of this country should not toy with his/her personal security.
“For your own sake be sensitive to whatever happens in your environment and never give yourself away with loose talks or reckless ways of life. You must be security alert at all times. As you have come for orientation, please I implore you to face the business that brought you here.”
Ani admonished the prospective corps members to seek clarifications on issues or matters they are not clear about and restrain themselves from posting comments about the operations of the Scheme on social media.
Ani thereafter inaugurated the Camp Court under the chairmanship of the Camp Director, Mrs. Itohan Ehimwenma.
Other members are the Camp Commandant, the Resident Officer 1, the Head of Police, Head, Man ‘O’ War, two hostel leaders and a corps lawyer.
She charged them to discharge their assignments conscientiously so that erring corps members prosecuted would become a changed person and not see the committee as witch-hunt or to settle perceived scores.
