The Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, has held its first congregation at the main campus, Oto-Ijanikin, Lagos.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, described the presence of the congregants at the occasion as a manifestation of the interest in the development of the nascent university.
According to her, the record of huge achievements of her administration within the short period of the establishment of the university prompted the congregation which she said was to lay facts on the progress made so far.
Lafiaji-Okuneye said that the Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, signed into law the bill establishing the Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, on February 2, 2022, and a week later submitted all the appropriate documents to the Executive Secretary, ES, of the National University Commission, NUC, and received the Certificate of Recognition of the Lagos State University of Education.
She said that the university took part in the 2022/2023 JAMB Admissions Exercise and predictably, several thousands of candidates applied to the university to study different programmes.
Lafiaji-Okuneye informed the congregation that aside Civic Education, the superintendent body had approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the undergraduate programmes to be run in the university with effect from the 2022/2023 academic session.
LASUED has concluded its admission process for 2022/2023 academic session and the merit list of its pioneer students has been released.
The Senate of the university was inaugurated on Thursday, November 3, 2022 and had since started performing its statutory functions.
According to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, holding the congregation of Lagos State University of Education underscored the commitment of the administration to steadily execute the university transitional programmes and guiding the congregation to elect its representatives.
She said the Senate would mark another monumental achievement in the annals of the university.
Lafiaji-Okuneye then appreciated the commitment of Governor Sanwo-Olu on the establishment of the university, saying, the project had been critical.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor was also grateful to the Special Adviser on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, for consistently demonstrating professionalism, dynamism and abiding sense of responsibility toward the university.
The congregation considered and adopted the university anthem, the slogan and elections for representative on university committees was conducted during the congregation.
